After removing all the mortar reconstructions, each block of stone was cleaned by applying compresses with a specific timing keyed to the superficial deposit that needed to be removed.
Later, stone chips and detached or loosened parts were consolidated through the use of pins and the reconstruction of the missing bosses. The fissures and the depressions on the stone surface and the junctures between blocks were plastered so as to prevent seepage and stagnant rainwater, which would damage the monument.
Finally the plaster of the lower part was redone. All renovations were completed with a special pictorial restoration so as to harmonize the color of the new daub and of the original plastering.
